MONDAY APRIL 8 TO SATURDAY APRIL 13, 2024

GENERAL SITUATION AND EVOLUTION

On the one hand, low-pressure system “Kathleen”, 970 hpa NW of the Faroe Islands, shifting towards the Arctic Ocean as it fills in, leading to a satellite minimum of 990 from offshore SW of Ireland to immediately SW of Scandinavia, where it will be Tuesday evening. – On the other hand, a weak anticyclone, 1017-1018 from N of the Balkans to N of Libya, associated with an upper ridge of Saharan origin. – Between the two, a prevailing SW flow over the Alpine arc, where the pressure field [ Chamonix, 1013 – Sion, 1015 – Innsbruck, 1017 ] continues to weaken from the W, as it approaches the trough associated with the Irish minimum, but is still bringing in warm, very dry, dust-laden air on Monday, which falls downwind of the relief along the northern slopes. – Degradation and cooling overnight and on Tuesday (snow around 1400-1500 m in the afternoon), as the disturbance associated with the above-mentioned satellite minimum passes through.
