Some Frequent Questions About Ski Touring

  1. Fitness for ski touring? You dont need to be super fit, but you do need to be fit enough to spend 1 or 2 hours hill walking at a relaxed pace.
  2. Skill level? You dont need to be a high performing skier. You just need to be able to ski variable snow conditions on gradients equivalent to: blue terrain for the easy day, or red terrain for the moderate day.
  3. Equipment? You will need ski touring skis, skins, ski crampon, transceiver, shovel, probe, and rucksack. Which can be rented as a "ski randonnee" package from the following shops:

Ski Touring Intro / Taster Session

Never before or not sure? Come and have short taster session with us and get a feel for the equipment and what its like, before comitting to longer ski touring sessions. Taster sessions run in the evening for an hour and a half (17:00 - 18:30). We will start from the resort and familiarise with the equipment and some basic techniques. Then we'll skin out of the resort and back in again before skiing back to where we started.

Day Ski Touring (Easy Terrain)

09:00 - 16:00

Routes are weather dependant and we will select routes according to the prevailing conditions. Typically routes for easy terrain will use the following guidelines:

Slope Angle Ascending/Descending: 15 - 20 Degrees. (Blue Terrain)

Horizontal Distance Ascending 1Km - 3Km

Elevation Ascending 200m-300m

Horizontal Distance Descending 3Km - 6Km

Elevation Descending 800m-1000m

Time Spent Ascending 1hr - 1.5hrs

*You will need to bring a packed lunch

Ski Touring Day: £450 (For up to six people)

Day Ski Touring (Moderate Terrain)

09:00 - 16:00

Routes are weather dependant and we will select routes according to the prevailing conditions. Typically routes for moderate terrain will use the following guidelines:

Slope Angle Ascending/Descending: 20 - 30 Degrees. (Red Terrain)

Horizontal Distance Ascending 2Km - 4Km

Elevation Ascending 250m-500m

Horizontal Distance Descending 6Km - 10Km

Elevation Descending 1000m-1200m

Time Spent Ascending 2hrs

Experience a moonlight ascent, peace and tranquility like no other. Routes for moonlight ascents will follow similar guidelines as for easy terrain:

Slope Angle Ascending/Descending: 15 - 20 Degrees. (Blue Terrain)

Horizontal Distance Ascending 1Km - 2Km

Elevation Ascending 200m-300m

Horizontal Distance Descending 3Km - 6Km

Elevation Descending 800m-1000m
