Alpine Touring FAQ

Fitness for ski touring? You dont need to be super fit, you just need to be comfortable spending a few hours hill walking at a relaxed pace.

Skill level? You dont need to be a high performing skier. If you are a skier that can comfortably ski most pistes, and can can ski un-groomed snow at the side of the pistes. You have enough skill to join us for some ski touring.

Equipment? You will need: ski touring skis/binding (or split board for the snowboarders), skins, ski crampon, transceiver, shovel, probe, and rucksack (Don’t worry, when sessions start we will carry out a kit check and briefing). Alpine touring equipment can be rented as a “ski randonnee” or “ski touring” package from good ski rental shops. For example at following shops:

Chamonix Almost all shops!

St Gervais Blanc Sport

Megeve Sport 2000

Les Carroz Ski Plus

Flaine Flaine Sport

Meribel Precision Ski

We recommend using appropriate skis during any of our off piste sessions. Use a ski that is greater than 85mm wide underfoot, and is as long as you are tall (+/- 3cm). Please avoid using short and narrow skis off piste, while they may feel lovely on piste, it will make things much more difficult for you off piste.

Avalanche safety equipment is required, which can be hired from most rental shops. If you need advice, let us know, we are here to help.
